A DAY & BOARDING PREP SCHOOL IN TUNBRIDGE WELLS, KENT
Holmewood House prep school in Tunbridge Wells is very much a family school where the positive relationships between the teachers and pupils allows us to get to know and understand the individual needs of each and every child.
We foster their talents and nurture their growth through a broad, balanced, challenging and exciting curriculum and, in doing so, create an environment whereby each child is provided with every opportunity to fulfil their potential. We believe that emotional and social well-being, self-esteem, happiness and confidence are of prime importance and are in themselves inextricably linked to academic progress.
Holmewood House is a co-educational, non-selective school for boys and girls aged 3-13 years, situated in 30 acres of glorious grounds in Tunbridge Wells.
The wonderful environment and outstanding facilities provide a strong framework upon which the ethos of ‘allowing children to be children can be achieved.

This summer, Oscar in Year 7 will be taking on an incredible cycling challenge in support of Cancer Research, and we would love to get behind him. On 31 July, Oscar will attempt to cycle the length of France, starting on the north coast and progressing through the Loire and Dordogne valleys; his legs will tackle some punishing climbs in rising heat as he finishes south of Bordeaux. Inspired by a deeply personal reason, he wanted to undertake a challenge that would push him both physically and mentally whilst raising money for an important cause close to his and many people’s hearts. The ride will include • Over 750km of cycling • Over 5,000m of climbing • Ample opportunity to use Madame Bass’ French to order croissants 🥐 The ride is being completed in aid of Cancer Research, and Oscar would be hugely grateful for any support from our community. We are incredibly proud of Oscar’s determination, resilience and sense of purpose, and we wish him the very best for this remarkable adventure. To donate, please go to his Just Giving page - link in bio. #SelfBelief #Aspiration #Kindness #HolmewoodHouseSchool

We are absolutely delighted that Holmewood House has been named Best Boarding House Extension or Refurbishment at the BSA Supporting Excellence Awards 2026.
Boarding has been at the core of Holmewood for more than 80 years, and this award is a powerful recognition that we are leading the way in modern Prep School boarding.
Our Head, Ruth O’Sullivan, said: ‘we’re so proud to have won this important award! Seeing our vision become a reality this year has been a buzz for the whole Holmewood team. Every staff member can take pride and celebrate this: everything we do is genuinely about the children and their experience’.
Our outstanding boarding team, led by Caolan Wukics, go above and beyond every single day to deliver a first‑class boarding experience where children aged 7-13 flourish academically, pastorally and personally. The refurbishment of our boarding house has strengthened this commitment even further, enhancing our exceptional “home at Holmewood”, a boutique, deeply nurturing environment that stands as a flagship for what modern prep boarding should feel like.
Thank you @bsaboarding for the award, especially in a category filled with so many great schools. It means a great deal to be recognised among such strong peers.
Our next Open Morning is coming up next Friday 15th May. We would love to show you what makes boarding at Holmewood so special and show you around our award-winning boarding house - link in bio.

The Swim School holds classes for children of all abilities and is open to Holmewood pupils as well as the wider community and takes places after the Holmewood school day has finished and on a Saturday morning.
Holmewood House School has been running holiday courses since 1998. We aim to offer a wide variety of courses for children aged 5-12 in a secure and relaxed environment.
Holmewood House provides a broad, well-balanced curriculum with outstanding teachers in what is very much a family school where the positive relationships between the teachers and children allows staff to get to know and understand the individual needs of each and every child.
TESTIMONIALS WHAT OUR STUDENTS & PARENTS HAVE TO SAY
Parent
Just wanted to express our thanks for this term. What a year! We’ve been utterly impressed by HH’s approach and care. We feel very grateful to be at this school and for the wonderful start in life it has given our children.
Prospective Parent
We both through that the school was superb – in fact as we were driving off of the property, we remarked that it was faultless across the board. We both feel that our children would thrive at Holmewood.
Pupil
“Thank you for your ongoing efforts in making Holmewood such a safe and nurturing place to grow, take risks, make mistakes and be curious, where the children are well known by their teachers and your team to help them navigate their course to growing confidence, leadership and empathy for helping others”.
Parent
“Our son ia a typical boy – great at maths, loves sports, hates writing!! But one of the teachers spotted that it was more than this … he was assessed and has dyslexia. Contrary to what many people may think, both we and the school see this positively – with the support of the Learning Support team, he now has a greater chance of reaching his true academic potential. Already, as a result of typing rather than doing handwritten work, he has discovered a new found love of creative writing and huge confidence in comprehension.”
Pupil
“I like playing in the garden and growing flowers and vegetables.”
Pupil
“The amount of opportunities we are offered is incredible and the teachers are all very helpful and friendly.”
Parent
“Communication at Holmewood is very good and they offer a number of opportunities each term for parents to attend both educational and pastoral forums.”
Pupil
“Holmewood house is a very good school which helps pupils feel at home and can adapt to suit you. I enjoy maths the most because my teacher makes you try to do things for yourself and he is very supportive.”
Parent
“I feel privileged to send my children to a school where teachers care so much and are able to work in such small class sizes.”
Age 18
I do believe that all my successes in life so far stem from my years at Holmewood. As well as providing a brilliant academic base, the nurturing from the teachers is like nothing else, and I cannot thank you enough for that.
Parent
“Holmewood offers a unique education in a safe and supportive environment for children of all ages.”
Parent
The chaperone service that Holmewood House offers has meant that our son has been able to access the best of both worlds, a country boarding school during the week where he can enjoy the space and facilities which are very hard to come by in London and then is able to come home every Friday to enjoy a full weekend with family. It is extremely convenient to be able to pick him up & drop off from central London & is workable on top of the other commitments I have! He looks forward to his trips on the train where he gets any unfinished homework done and then is able to relax at home
