80 years ago, on the 5th of October 1945, Holmewood House School opened its gates for the first time to eight boys. Eight decades, nine head teachers and the introduction of girls later, today we celebrate 80 years of memories, friendships, and achievements at Holmewood.
We have recently invited the class of 1965 and the class of 1975 back to see the school, reconnect with each other and have a look at our archival materials. It has been incredible to see how formative and important the years at Holmewood have been for so many people.
As we celebrate the last 80 years of Holmewood and those who have made and continue to make the school so special, we invite former staff, students, parents and friends to join our Old Holmewoodian network. There is a form in our bio, or you can get in touch via alumni@holmewoodhouse.co.uk.
In our 80th year and beyond we hope to connect Old Holmewoodians through our alumni network, upcoming reunion events and our imminent alumni website with more details to follow. Here’s to the next chapter of Holmewood’s story.

"Once a Holmewoodian - always a Holmewoodian" Last month, we welcomed back the Class of `75 for the first of our 80-year alumni reunions, celebrating eight decades of stories and friendships. Former pupils flew in from across the globe, including Tasmania and the USA, to reconnect and reminisce. We were also delighted to welcome back former staff who enjoyed catching up with their past pupils and hearing about their achievements over the last 50 years. As part of the celebration, the Class of `75 presented the school with a new trophy: The Class of `75 Cup, which will be awarded annually to the Senior Rugby Player of the Year. A great lasting tribute to their time at the school. TESTIMONIALS WHAT OUR STUDENTS & PARENTS HAVE TO SAY
Parent
Just wanted to express our thanks for this term. What a year! We’ve been utterly impressed by HH’s approach and care. We feel very grateful to be at this school and for the wonderful start in life it has given our children.
Prospective Parent
We both through that the school was superb – in fact as we were driving off of the property, we remarked that it was faultless across the board. We both feel that our children would thrive at Holmewood.
Pupil
“I love having Mojo the PAT Dog in my classroom, he listens to me read.”
Parent
“Our son ia a typical boy – great at maths, loves sports, hates writing!! But one of the teachers spotted that it was more than this … he was assessed and has dyslexia. Contrary to what many people may think, both we and the school see this positively – with the support of the Learning Support team, he now has a greater chance of reaching his true academic potential. Already, as a result of typing rather than doing handwritten work, he has discovered a new found love of creative writing and huge confidence in comprehension.”
Pupil
“I like playing in the garden and growing flowers and vegetables.”
Pupil
“The amount of opportunities we are offered is incredible and the teachers are all very helpful and friendly.”
Parent
“Communication at Holmewood is very good and they offer a number of opportunities each term for parents to attend both educational and pastoral forums.”
Pupil
“Holmewood house is a very good school which helps pupils feel at home and can adapt to suit you. I enjoy maths the most because my teacher makes you try to do things for yourself and he is very supportive.”
Parent
“I feel privileged to send my children to a school where teachers care so much and are able to work in such small class sizes.”
Age 18
I do believe that all my successes in life so far stem from my years at Holmewood. As well as providing a brilliant academic base, the nurturing from the teachers is like nothing else, and I cannot thank you enough for that.
Parent
“Holmewood offers a unique education in a safe and supportive environment for children of all ages.”
Parent
The chaperone service that Holmewood House offers has meant that our son has been able to access the best of both worlds, a country boarding school during the week where he can enjoy the space and facilities which are very hard to come by in London and then is able to come home every Friday to enjoy a full weekend with family. It is extremely convenient to be able to pick him up & drop off from central London & is workable on top of the other commitments I have! He looks forward to his trips on the train where he gets any unfinished homework done and then is able to relax at home
