Last night marked the grand finals of the Tonbridge School ‘Science Snippets’ competition, where pupils from across the country delivered four-minute presentations on a scientific topic of their choice.

Holmewood House School was superbly represented by Mayra in Year 6, whose presentation, From Thought to Action and Emotion: A Snippet on Neuroscience, earned her a place as a finalist in this year’s junior category.

Pupils travelled from schools across the South East and beyond to attend the event, with Professor Steve Cross appearing as the special guest on the judging panel.

Mayra performed exceptionally well, showing remarkable composure and excellent communication skills as she explained her complex topic to a large audience under the bright lights of the Barton Science Centre.

We are incredibly proud of her and hope she will inspire our pupils in future competitions. Congratulations, Mayra!

Thank you so much to the amazing Friends of Holmewood for all their hard work organising the Family Fun Day!

The children had a brilliant time, bouncing and sliding around on the inflatables spread across the South Lawn. Definitely the highlight was seeing members of staff in the stocks....they looked decidedly nervous at the proximity of the throwers at times! Thank you to Mrs O’Sullivan, Mr Steele, Mr Jervis, Mr Gurran, Mr Wukics and Mr Gray for being such great sports.

A huge thank you to all the fabulous parent volunteers who supported the event. These events simply can’t run without you, so thanks to everyone who gave up their time to help. And thanks to the wonderful suppliers for their hard work.

Events like this not only bring the Holmewood community together, they also help raise funds for local charity Taylor-Made Dreams, and investments in school projects adding value to the lives of the children throughout the school.

A heartfelt thank you to the small-but-mighty Friends of Holmewood committee who work tirelessly to put on these fantastic events - do reach out if you would like to join them by emailing friends@holmewoodhouse.co.uk.

Next event: 11th June, a fabulous evening of rose tasting and discovery!

TESTIMONIALS WHAT OUR STUDENTS & PARENTS HAVE TO SAY

Parent

Just wanted to express our thanks for this term. What a year! We’ve been utterly impressed by HH’s approach and care. We feel very grateful to be at this school and for the wonderful start in life it has given our children.

Prospective Parent

We both through that the school was superb – in fact as we were driving off of the property, we remarked that it was faultless across the board. We both feel that our children would thrive at Holmewood.

Pupil

“Thank you for your ongoing efforts in making Holmewood such a safe and nurturing place to grow, take risks, make mistakes and be curious, where the children are well known by their teachers and your team to help them navigate their course to growing confidence, leadership and empathy for helping others”.

Parent

“Our son ia a typical boy – great at maths, loves sports, hates writing!! But one of the teachers spotted that it was more than this … he was assessed and has dyslexia. Contrary to what many people may think, both we and the school see this positively – with the support of the Learning Support team, he now has a greater chance of reaching his true academic potential. Already, as a result of typing rather than doing handwritten work, he has discovered a new found love of creative writing and huge confidence in comprehension.”

Pupil

“I like playing in the garden and growing flowers and vegetables.”

Pupil

“The amount of opportunities we are offered is incredible and the teachers are all very helpful and friendly.”

Parent

“Communication at Holmewood is very good and they offer a number of opportunities each term for parents to attend both educational and pastoral forums.”

Pupil

“Holmewood house is a very good school which helps pupils feel at home and can adapt to suit you. I enjoy maths the most because my teacher makes you try to do things for yourself and he is very supportive.”

Parent

“I feel privileged to send my children to a school where teachers care so much and are able to work in such small class sizes.”

Age 18

I do believe that all my successes in life so far stem from my years at Holmewood. As well as providing a brilliant academic base, the nurturing from the teachers is like nothing else, and I cannot thank you enough for that.

Parent

“Holmewood offers a unique education in a safe and supportive environment for children of all ages.”

Parent

The chaperone service that Holmewood House offers has meant that our son has been able to access the best of both worlds, a country boarding school during the week where he can enjoy the space and facilities which are very hard to come by in London and then is able to come home every Friday to enjoy a full weekend with family. It is extremely convenient to be able to pick him up & drop off from central London & is workable on top of the other commitments I have! He looks forward to his trips on the train where he gets any unfinished homework done and then is able to relax at home
