Rifle Shooting Success

Congratulations to Louis in Year 7 who has become the youngest EVER Holmewood pupil to score 100/100 under match rules, shooting from a distance of 22 metres!

Louis scored this incredible result on a National Rifle Association Cadet target (what schools use up to the age of 18). In addition though, Louis has also scored 93/100 on an Adult Target, only used by advanced shooters. To put it in context, the highest any of our previous shooters have scored has been 96/100 and this was achieved towards the end of Year 8; Louis is not yet half way through Year 7!

Holmewood is one of the very few prep schools that has its own rifle range, found under the swimming pool changing rooms and alongside the pool itself. Beginners and advanced shooting is open to Years 5 - 8 during term time activity sessions and courses are run as part of the Easter and Summer Holiday Courses.

Our shooting club has produced many successful shooters including Thomas Craig-Fleming who represented Great Britain in the GBU21 Rifle Team in South Africa in 2024; Oona Aiken won the individual top shooter out of all Preparatory Schools in the United Kingdom; and Matilda Page was, on merit, selected England captain to shoot against Scotland and Wales in the National Preparatory Schools' Competition.

A huge well done to Louis for this incredible result. We look forward to hearing of his progress. His target will now hang in the range for all to admire his amazing achievement!

TESTIMONIALS WHAT OUR STUDENTS & PARENTS HAVE TO SAY

Parent

Just wanted to express our thanks for this term. What a year! We’ve been utterly impressed by HH’s approach and care. We feel very grateful to be at this school and for the wonderful start in life it has given our children.

Prospective Parent

We both through that the school was superb – in fact as we were driving off of the property, we remarked that it was faultless across the board. We both feel that our children would thrive at Holmewood.

Pupil

“Thank you for your ongoing efforts in making Holmewood such a safe and nurturing place to grow, take risks, make mistakes and be curious, where the children are well known by their teachers and your team to help them navigate their course to growing confidence, leadership and empathy for helping others”.

Parent

“Our son ia a typical boy – great at maths, loves sports, hates writing!! But one of the teachers spotted that it was more than this … he was assessed and has dyslexia. Contrary to what many people may think, both we and the school see this positively – with the support of the Learning Support team, he now has a greater chance of reaching his true academic potential. Already, as a result of typing rather than doing handwritten work, he has discovered a new found love of creative writing and huge confidence in comprehension.”

Pupil

“I like playing in the garden and growing flowers and vegetables.”

Pupil

“The amount of opportunities we are offered is incredible and the teachers are all very helpful and friendly.”

Parent

“Communication at Holmewood is very good and they offer a number of opportunities each term for parents to attend both educational and pastoral forums.”

Pupil

“Holmewood house is a very good school which helps pupils feel at home and can adapt to suit you. I enjoy maths the most because my teacher makes you try to do things for yourself and he is very supportive.”

Parent

“I feel privileged to send my children to a school where teachers care so much and are able to work in such small class sizes.”

Age 18

I do believe that all my successes in life so far stem from my years at Holmewood. As well as providing a brilliant academic base, the nurturing from the teachers is like nothing else, and I cannot thank you enough for that.

Parent

“Holmewood offers a unique education in a safe and supportive environment for children of all ages.”

Parent

The chaperone service that Holmewood House offers has meant that our son has been able to access the best of both worlds, a country boarding school during the week where he can enjoy the space and facilities which are very hard to come by in London and then is able to come home every Friday to enjoy a full weekend with family. It is extremely convenient to be able to pick him up & drop off from central London & is workable on top of the other commitments I have! He looks forward to his trips on the train where he gets any unfinished homework done and then is able to relax at home
