IAPS Swimming Finals Success

On Saturday 3rd June we had an early start at the London Olympic Pool for the IAP’S National Finals 2023.

The children had a fantastic time, and all put in their best and fastest swims of the year. It was an exciting opportunity to swim in the pool where all the greatest swimmers in the world have swum.

All the pupils did themselves and Holmewood proud and really enjoyed swimming in the pool of champions!!

The Girls competed first in the morning session and got off to a great start.

The 11 & Under Relay Team started the racing off putting in a fantastic performance in the 4 x 25m Medley and Freestyle Relay. The teams consisted of Astrid, Charlotte, Sally,  Hen and Harriet.

The year 7/8 team then went onto to swim both the 4 x25m Medley and Freestyle relays too. Impressively finishing in 9th place after qualifying in 20th place. The teams consisted of Addison, Hattie, Amelie, Tiffany and Darcey.

Our Individual Finalists also competed superbly with all 4 girls making the finals and swimming personal best times.

Final placing nationally:

Soyul year 5 finished in 6th place in the 25m Butterfly.

Charlotte year 6 finished in 8th place in the 50m Backstroke.

Addison year 8 finished in 8th place in the 50m Backstroke.

Hattie year 8 finished in 2nd place in the 50m Breaststroke.

Hattie put in a very gutsy performance and just missed out on the gold but what a fantastic achievement to finish 2nd nationally and she also broke the school record. Congratulations Hattie!!

A huge congratulations to the girls for an amazing day of racing.

The boys soon arrived to kick off the afternoon session at the LAC.

The Boys 11 & Under Freestyle Relay team consisting of Phoenix, Freddie, Alex and Charlie got off to a great start by improving their time by 4 seconds and really setting the standard for the rest of the teams. The 12 & Under boys did not disappoint, Caleb, Rohan, Zac, and Ethan all improving their qualifying times considerably.

We then moved on to the individual events where Holmewood stepped-up again racing hard to qualify into 3 finals. The pressure was then on as all the finalists were keen to secure a top 3 position and bring home a medal.

The final finishing positions for the boy’s individuals were.

Nolan year 5 finished in 11th position in the 25m Backstroke.

Phoenix year 6 finishing in 8th position in the 50m Backstroke.

Aleksandr year 8 finishing in 9th position in the 50m Breaststroke.

Rohan secured a well-earned 1st place and was crowned IAP’s National Champion for the 12years & Under 50 metres Backstroke for the second year in a row. Setting a new school record with his time. Huge congratulations to Rohan.

Well done boys some fast racing!

Congratulations to all our swimmers on their achievements and for making it such a memorable fun day. They were all impeccably behaved and real ambassadors for Holmewood House.
