Author Visit: Helen Peters

The talk for Years 3-5 by award-winning author Helen Peters on Tuesday was a great success. We were also delighted that twenty-eight Year 3 pupils and their teachers were able to join us from Temple Grove Academy. On asking pupils what they enjoyed best, it was everything from realising that real-life scenarios from growing up on a farm can end up in a book to enjoying the interactive quizzes as well as finding out about how a book is turned from words on a page into an illustrated and printed book. It was followed by a chance to meet the author and have a booked signed. Catherine Duncumb

Year 4 Enrichment

Over the last four weeks a group of Year 4 have been investigating Aaron Becker’s award-winning wordless book, The Tree and the River. They studied how he created incredibly detailed illustrations to convey a time-lapse portrait of humankind’s impact on the natural world. Starting with a solitary tree the story tracks the evolution of our species, civilisation, imaginary architectural styles and places until after a sequence of decline and destruction it comes full circle with an acorn self-seeding to create a new tree and new life.

The group created their own sequence of events in the form of a book. They created a meandering river and considered, illustrated and described what their river passed as it made its way from the mountains to the sea.
