Boys’ Sport

1st XI

The 1st XI had a vert tough battle against Bedes on Wednesday afternoon! We started the game better than Bedes, but struggled to get make any impact on their defence. Just before the break, Bedes won a corner and managed to find a bit of space in the box to smash. it home to make it 0-1. A very similar build up lead to Bedes second goal and this proved to be a catalyst for us to get going! Tommy Perry’s bullet header from 10 yards out brought us back into the game, and with minutes remaining Beracah scored a banger into the top corner which brough the game level, which on the balance of play, was a fair result.

Draw 2-2

2nd XI vs Bede’s School

A 0-0 draw sounds dull … but this game was anything but! We, yet again, played on a huge Bedes pitch with massive goals. However, we’ve got used to playing on large pitches and we weren’t put off in the slightest. Every player in the team worked incredibly hard in the 20-degree heat. It was certainly an end-to-end game and probably a draw was a fair reflection on the game.

3rd XI vs Bede’s School

A match that was anyone’s game to win was the best way to describe the match today, we arrived to a smaller pitch than usual with larger goals – we would need to work hard to create space for ourselves and not all gather around the ball. We begun with a 4-3-1 formation and hit the ground running with some close shots early in the 1st half, later on Harrison placed the ball nicely in the back of the net. Bede’s came back strong though and scored a goal soon after to level the score. We lost focus later on in the half and were unlucky with a few shots by Bede’s which results in 3 more goals back-to-back.

We came back determined in the 2nd half but couldn’t quite get the last pass away to finish it despite several good attempts – the score in the 2nd half was 1-1 which equalled a final score of 5-2. Player of the match was Charlie Whymark who showed that not only is he an excellent winger but also a fantastic striker.

4th XI vs Bede’s School

Whilst this was another loss to stronger opposition, the team was never second best in terms of effort and application. On another day, the 4 or 5 good chances that were created will be taken and the boys will be rewarded with that elusive victory.

U11As vs Bede’s School

Win 4 – 2.

Goal Scorers: Edmund, Arlo, Joel, Raife JT

Man of the Match – Hugo

A very shaky start for HH saw Bede’s take control with two very quick goals – both a result of sharp passing and good finishing. HH continued to struggle to get out of their own half with Bede’s being allowed to attack freely for the first 10 minutes. Hugo was a bright spark in a dull first half with some lovely movement and dribbling to often catch the Bede’s defense of guard. A long hopeful ball up the field from Ethan, taken down nicely by Hugo and squared to Edmund saw HH half the deficit just before the half time whistle. With a shift in formation HH looked a different team in the second half with Arlo quickly tapping in an equalizer before Joel ran the length of the pitch, past 4 Bede’s players and smashing the ball into the top left corner – to finally give HH the lead. Bede’s offered little and HH continued to look dominate the chances with Raife finally killing off the game with a tidy finish. Full time 4-2 – a very impressive turnaround that the team can be proud of.

U11C vs Bede’s School

The U11C team continue to impress, this week playing against Bedes. The boy’s tenacity was great to see and they showed a real desire to win every loose ball. We have become a physical but fair team who seem to will the ball into the net. The boys have been putting into practise lots of what they’ve been learning on the training ground, especially when it comes to passing to the wings from goal kicks and using the width of the pitch effectively. They were disciplined in holding their positions and this organisation helped the boys surge to a 2-0 win with very clinical goals from Teddy and Louis. Another week to be proud of. Well done team!

U10A vs Bede’s School

Another good victory for the under 10As this week saw their unbeaten season still alive. Holmewood took a very early lead and this turned into 3 goals after a couple of minutes. The boys were able to play in a variety of positions during the game, gaining an understanding for what each of their teammates roles are in other matches. The final score was 10-3 to Holmewood a solid win.

U9A vs The New Beacon & Hazelwood

This Thursday saw the under 9As travel to New beacon for a triangular against the hosts and Hazelwood. Our first game was a very tightly contested match against New Beacon where we came out 2nd narrowly defeated 2-1 but the boys played fantastically well and this set us up nicely for the following fixture against Hazelwood. After a strong start Holmewood found themselves 2-0 up before conceding a very unfortunate goal from a kick in. Holmewood regrouped and put in a very good performance winning the game 4-1. Every single one of the boys played superbly.

U9B vs The New Beacon & Hazelwood

The B team played against New Beacon and Hazelwood on a beautiful autumn afternoon. The pitch was a little bigger and slopier than we were used to but it just meant that we had to adapt to the conditions and the pitch. Nevertheless, we played New Beacon first and lost narrowly 0-1. We then played Hazelwood and won 2-1. It was a cracking way to finish the season. Well played boys!

U9C vs The New Beacon and Hazelwood

The U9 C’s played in a triangular fixture against New Beacon and Hazelwood. The first game against New Beacon was a close affair and both sides created opportunities. In close games small margins determine the result and on this occasion, New Beacon just proved more accurate when it came to shooting which gave them the slender victory. On another day the result could easily have been different.

In the second game against Hazlewood, the team showed great team work and started to pass the ball around to create lots of chances. The game was decided by a moment of team magic when passes from Jack, Theo, Theo and Oliver ended with a great team goal scored by Emilio into the top corner which settled the game.

The passing of the boys throughout showed great improvement and if they continue then the team can expect further success. The player of the match was awarded to Jack who showed great awareness and some brilliant passing.

U8As vs Dulwich Prep School

Win 6-1

Goal scorers: Leo Jones (4), Bertie, Leo Simpson

Man of the Match: Leo S

Due to illness DPS only turned up with five players which provided us with no choice but to play on a smaller pitch with less players – which wasn’t ideal as we had eight players eager to play. HH started amazingly scoring three inside the first quarter – consisting of two good strikes coming from Leo J and a tidy finish coming from Bertie. HH started the second quarter in a similar fashion scoring two more to extend the lead to 5-0. To allow a more even third and fourth quarters we thought it best to give DPS another player. Big credit to Bertie, Callum and Leo S for showing great sportsmanship to happily play for DPS – every single one of them trying their best. The next two quarters were far more even and both teams were much improved in passing the ball and finding space. HH still had the best chances with Cillian and Leo S both hitting the post with far put efforts. Both teams managed to score an unfortunate own goal each and the game ended 6-1 to HH.

U8B vs Dulwich Cranbrook

The U8B team hosted Dulwich at home on the South Lawn. Both teams became more organised as the match progressed, with players improving through each quarter. We played four quarters, allowing brief breaks to discuss positioning and game scenarios with the pupils. There was plenty of good football from both sides, with strong passing, movement, and teamwork on display. Holmewood’s hard work paid off as they secured a well-earned 1-0 win. It was a fantastic way to end the season, showcasing the boys’ development and team spirit. Well done, boys, for finishing on a high note!

U8C vs Dulwich Cranbrook

The U8C team was divided into two groups to play against Dulwich, who were left with only 4 players after some absences. The blue team took the field first, playing uphill. Leon quickly made an impact by tackling a Dulwich player and scoring within the first 10 seconds after they took the centre pass. Throughout game, Dulwich managed to advance into our half several times, but Holmewood consistently countered with strong tackles and drives into open space behind their defence. Despite missing several opportunities to score, both of our teams were successful, culminating in a 5-0 victory after two 5-minute halves. To increase competitiveness, we mixed the teams for two additional 7-minute halves, resulting in a highly enjoyable and spirited match. It was wonderful to see the pupils collaborating with the opposing team, enhancing both skills and sportsmanship.
