1st Team Football
The 1st team had a tough first fixture against a very well drilled St Andrew’s team. The game was physical but fair with lots of strong tackles going in by both sides. St Andrews scored two early goals meaning they went into the break 2-0 up. Holmewood came out fighting in the second half and adopted some new tactics, looking to exploit the space in behind the St Andrew’s defence. Holmewood had the bit between their teeth and pulled 2 goals back meaning they were drawing 2-2 with two minutes to play. Unfortunately, St Andrew’s star player found a moment of magic towards the end of the match scoring a late goal to win the game for her team 3-2. An impressive performance by the Holmewood 1st team, playing together for the first time and showing real steel and strength in their play. AF
3rd Team Football
The 3rd team had a great game against St Andrew’s with strong play throughout the pitch. Tilly was especially strong and scored the first 2 goals. There was some great running with the ball by Trixie and Phoebe made some good saves. Harriet and Sophia stood firm in defence making it hard for the opposition to get through to the goal whilst Fran was tenacious in the midfield and Sofia finished the game scoring a brilliant third goal. A great win for their first match and an exciting couple of weeks ahead. Well done girls!! SP
4th Team Football
Battling the elements (we had rain, hail and snow!), Holmewood 4th Team were unfortunately defeated 2-0 against St. Andrews Prep.
Despite the scoreline, our goalkeepers put in a solid performance, making some great saves to keep us in the game. We had some promising moments, with good kicking down the line but we just couldn’t find the finishing touch to get the ball in the back of the net. A hard-fought effort from the whole team and well done to Maisie for P.O.M. KL

After a long journey down to St Andrew’s and not much time to warm up, the team started the game very well, pushing St Andrew’s back into their own half and stopping any counterattacks with physical defending from Iona and Millie. St Andrew’s defended well with numbers and suddenly out of nowhere a quickfire double saw them shoot into the lead. Before half time HH started to string some good passes together and with only a couple of minutes to go Shekinah pulled a goal back with a powerful finish into the middle of the goal. The second half was very one-sided, with HH having majority of the possession but just lacking a final finish. An exciting second half came to an end with St Andrew’s grabbing a third against the run of play in the final 30 seconds. A very fast and physical game ended 3-1. BW

We travelled to Eastbourne to play 7 aside against a strong opposition. From the start, we struggled to get out of our half and we let St Andrews score despite some determined defending from Ottilie and Eleanor. The second half, Antonia, Deya, Zoe and Maya put up an energetic attack with stronger forward play and some close shots at goal. However the girls played with tenacity and never lost heart. Well Done to Amaia for taking on the mantle of Goalkeeper. POM Ottilie and Antonia. SE

The girls did well despite the cold and rain. They played Saint Ronans first. Sadly, we didn’t win this one, but the girls kept going and pushing through. End score was 0-3 to Saint Ronans. Girl of the game was Ffion.
The second game was against Dulwich prep. This game was very close. Some great strikes from Ffion and good saves from Rebecca. The girls really tried, and the end score was 0-0. Girl of the game was Rebecca. EB

An away fixture for the under 10As this week at St Andrews could have ended up first on the ‘Match of the day’ running order after a superb performance from the Holmewood girls. Playing down hill in the first half the girls managed to get plenty of shots away but often found the ball running away from them and behind for a goal kick. Despite this the girls went into the break 2-0 up. The second half saw us take our chances where we scored a further 6 goals to finish with a very convincing 8-0 win. Every single girl contributed to a fantastic win. JP

On Wednesday, the U10Bs played football against St Andrew’s Prep! They had a fantastic win of 7-0, which was a result of their impressive match play and maintained effort throughout the game. Despite being ahead the whole match, the girls did not slack off and continued to put their best efforts forward throughout the game. They worked incredibly as a team especially in terms of their passes and showed excellent defending skills! They enjoyed the game and should be very proud of themselves! ET

U10C’s went to Dulwich Prep Cranbrook to play triangulars with a mix of a lot of local prep schools.
We started of in the hail, playing one of the St Ronan’s teams. After leading most of the match 1-0, St Ronan’s managed to equalise in the last 5 seconds to end in a draw.
Our second match against another St Ronan’s team, showed and equal first half, going into the second half 0-0. Unfortunately, St R’s scored and their confidence was up scoring another 2 quick goals resulting in a 0-3 loss.
3rd game was against The Mead, where we dominated the games, scoring 4 goals having the majority of the possession. End result 4-1.
Last match against Dulwich Prep was an equal game regarding possession of the ball, the Holmewood team managed to push up and score resulting in 1-0 win.
A great afternoon had by all, despite the cold weather and hail! KB

The team put in another fantastic performance to continue their three-game winning streak! HH started strong with Romy sweeping home the opener only a few minutes into the game. Hazelwood grew into the game and managed to find an equalizer just before half time, but this ended up being their only shot on target of the game. The third quarter was frustrating for HH as they kept the ball in the Hazelwood half for almost the entire quarter but somehow were unable to find the back of the net. Finally in the last quarter of the game Alana was able to score the much-needed goal wish a nice finish from a tight angle to give HH a much-deserved lead. Suddenly HH couldn’t find anything but the net with a Hazelwood Loanee and Winter scoring one each to finish off the game. With no subs, the girls did brilliantly to keep running right until the end. U9B Football
What a game! Our U9B team battled hard against Hazelwood. The match saw an intense back and forth – 1-1, then 2-2, then 3-3 before Libby sealed the victory with a last minute winner. A fantastic team effort, with Libby deservedly named Player of the Match as she scored all 4 goals! Well done, everyone. KL

U9 C football v Hazelwood Lost 5 2
Hazelwood arrived and we played 7 aside borrowing 2 players from their team. A great game from start to finish with every girl working tirelessly. Lottie and Adetomiwa often dribbled the ball at speed out pacing the defender and made several attempts at goal. Sophie was a hero today in defence, tackling at the crucial moment and clearing the ball with her powerful kick. Bonnie and Whitney were our super savers on the day taking goalkeeping responsibility. We scored two great goals and this was certainly our best performance to date . Well done to both Sophie and Adetomiwa (POM) and also Lottie, Whitney and Bonnie. A great team effort SE

As we drove to Hazelwood through a number of hail storms we were a little anxious as to whether the games would actually take place. Arriving at the venue and spending the next 10 mins huddled in the minibus we changed our footwear, and right on cue, the sunshine and blue skies appeared.
The teams all showed great improvement with more passing, tackling and dribbling up the pitch. The results were varied between the teams, but generally they all loved the afternoon and lots of goals were scored by both teams. Next week sees the big tournaments for all of the girls which is exciting. Well done and good luck girls!
