Senior 1st v St Michael’s
The 1st Team boys lost a close game away at St. Michael’s, 1-3. After 10 minutes, Holmewood had controlled the lion’s share of both possession and territory, putting the home side under immense pressure. Unfortunately, though, they were unable to get any reward for their efforts and the defence held firm. Later in the half, St. Michael’s added two goals of their own from breakaway opportunities where Holmewood allowed them far too much time inside the circle and they went in two goals to the good.
The second half began much like the first, with Holmewood threatening early. A lovely run by Joseph down the wing saw the ball moved on to Ruben, in to tom and finally laid off to Will, who scored with a lovely strike from high in the D. Holmewood continued to create changes in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the goal again and eventually their desperation to score left them vulnerable again at the back, and St. Michael’s scored again to make the final score 1-3. player of the match was Ruben, who looked deadly on the right wing in the second half, giving us a lot more urgency and attacking threat. Finn also had another excellent game on the left-hand side, where he has been steadily improving all season.
