1st Team vs Bede’s School
This match truly was a game of two halves. Despite a solid warm-up, we struggled to adapt to the away pitch and the opposition’s pace, conceding early and finding ourselves 6-0 down at halftime.
However, the team showed fantastic resilience in the second half, stepping up their intensity and matching the opposition’s energy. We battled hard, defended well, and even managed to draw the half 1-1—a real testament to our determination and improvement. A great second-half performance to reflect on!
2nd Team vs Bede’s School
The boys’ 2nd VII played in a very tight game away at Bede’s on Wednesday. After going going a goal down early on, they equalised in the first half through Tom and things appeared to be going their way until a late goal left them 2-1 down at half time. In the second half, they went 3-1 down, before fighting back to 3-2 through a wonderfully-worked goal from Digby, assisted by Tom. Bede’s then scored to make it 4-2, before the boys again fought back with another goal. In the final seconds, they had a chance to tie the game up at 4-4, but were unfortunately unable to convert it and ended up losing narrowly, 4-3. It was a superb performance and the boys should be really proud of their progress this term.
3rd Team vs Bede’s School
The season ended for the 3rd Team with a disappointing result but so many positives to take forward. Grayson in only his second outing in goal was simply outstanding. William who was making his second appearance since joining us has come on leaps and bounds in a very short space of time and, with Nolan to support him defence, produced some really strong tackles and an outstanding goal line clearance in the second half. The boys have worked hard throughout and have been a pleasure to coach.
U11A Hockey vs Bede’s School
U11B vs Bede’s School
On a gloriously sunny, Spring-like afternoon on the final Wednesday of the Lent term, The Colts B team welcomed Bede’s to the Holmewood Home of hockey – the Astro. This was to be the final match of the season and for some of the team their final Holmewood House hockey match and they were determined to put on a good show and so they did! Glorious hockey was played from the first whistle to the last, with attacks built on solid defending, dynamism in the midfield and [at last] clinical finishing. This has been threatened earlier in the season but not quite delivered but the boys certainly saved the best to last. It was a treat for the crowds that gathered on the bank to watch this free-flowing spectacle of fine hockey. To a boy, all contributed with the team four – nil up at half term and with further goals coming in the second half, the overall result was a convincing ten nil victory. The defenders were outstanding Tadiwa, Louie R and Captain Ethan C, as were the midfield of Louis C- J, Rafe B and up front Hugo B, Raife J-T and Aaron O. Well done to Oliver G who has had a superb season in goal but on this occasion had a quieter afternoon. Well done, Raife J-T for 4 goals and likewise for Hugo B, further goals coming from Rafe B and Louis C-J. But above all this was a team effort from 1-9. Well played – what a shame it was the final game of the season but keep enjoying your hockey, boys!
U10A vs Bede’s School
The U10As hosted Bede’s for a late-starting hockey match, facing a well-prepared and energetic opposition. Bede’s, already warmed up from a previous game, started strongly, using their pace to get in behind our defence. Initially, we struggled to break their press, playing too narrowly through the middle, which allowed them to counter effectively and take a 1-0 lead.
However, we quickly adapted, spreading the play to the wings and finding more space to attack. Our efforts were rewarded with an equaliser, and from there, both teams created chances in a tightly contested match. Henry pulled off some crucial saves to keep us in the game, and with excellent finishing up front, we managed to take the lead. In a thrilling end-to-end battle, the boys dug deep to secure a 3-2 victory—an exciting way to close out the season!
U10B vs Bede’s School
The U10Bs hosted Bede’s for a late-starting hockey match, fielding two mixed-ability teams that rotated throughout the game. From the outset, we dominated possession, pressing high to win the ball back early and launching fast counter-attacks. Our attacking play was sharp, with dynamic movement off the ball and clinical finishing leading to plenty of goals.
Both teams secured convincing victories before facing off against each other in a fun and competitive final eight minutes. It was a fantastic way to round off the season, with the boys showing how much progress they’ve made. With back-to-back wins against Bede’s and St Michael’s, confidence is high as we look forward to the cricket season!
