Year 4 11.10.24

World War II History Day

Year 4 stepped out of the classroom on Wednesday to dive deeper into WWII history with the brilliant Hands On History.

The children – and teachers – had the chance to dress in the real uniforms of a Royal Navy Signaller, a soldier, an RAF pilot, and evacuees. They explored the development of gas masks and the equipment used by soldiers, learning just how tough life was during the War.

After making their own gas masks the children learned morse code and semaphore. They even handled deactivated firearms from the battlefield – amazed by how heavy they were.

The final part of the day saw the children practicing their WWII first aid techniques, using the same instructions given to soldiers for bandaging different injuries. It was a great day for bringing history to life! The Year 4 Team
