Year 7 & 8 Showcase Concert

Last Monday over 100 children gathered in the theatre to perform to a full house of parents, staff and pupils.  The evening opened with the huge sound of the ever growing Holmewood House Symphony Orchestra performing Purcell’s much loved “Rondeau”, many children only having joined the orchestra this term, some of whom had only been playing their instruments for little more than a few months.  This was followed by a diverse selection of performances from our Year 7 soloists.  The evening also featured performances from the Senior Brass Group and the Senior Strings, led by Mrs Carter.  The Strings played the famous Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart whilst the Brass performed a fanfare and an arrangement of Clair de la Lune.  Another surprise item was the Music Scholars Group who had composed a piece especially for the event which also involved playing their instruments in a somewhat unusual way!  The highlight of the evening was definitely the Combined Choir performing Toto’s Africa with some fabulous thunder effects at the beginning followed by a specially composed song called Together We Rise written by Mrs Carter.  After some wonderful Year 8 solos the evening was closed by the fabulous Choristers’ Choir who sang a rousing rendition of Vivaldi’s Gloria! Lydia Carter

Good Morning Performing

We were treated to some brilliant performances on Thursday morning. Edgar, Daisy and Cara played three piano pieces with great confidence and musicality. Temi and India sang beautifully; Shekinah played her violin brilliantly and we were treated to a wonderful surprise performance from Rosie on her saxophone! Thank you to all the children for a joyful morning! Lydia Carter
