A Child-Centred Approach

Holmewood House’s sport programme is unashamedly child centred. Each of our children, regardless of their abilities, are encouraged to enjoy their games sessions. Our aim to achieve a 100% participation rate  allows every child to experience the benefits of match days and controlled competition on a weekly basis.

A team of skilled, highly experienced, enthusiastic sports staff are on hand from Nursery to Year 8 to help support and develop their knowledge and skills and instil a love and passion for a variety of sports.

Success For All

Sporting experiences at Holmewood House take many forms from national success in Squash, Swimming or Gymnastics to encouraging the pre-prep children to understand the advantages and the value of play. Sessions throughout the week focus on engaging all-inclusive warm ups, small-sided skills game or a controlled match play situation. Our school’s ‘Coaching and Competition Philosophy’ revolves around discovery, exploration and success for all involved. Maximising the time each girl or boy plays with a ball in their hands or at their feet.

Incredible Facilities

These children make daily use of our immaculate sports fields that include astroturf pitches, swimming pool and shooting range. Alongside numerous indoor and outdoor tennis, netball, rugby, cricket and hockey facilities. Perhaps more importantly, we strive to provide a breadth of sporting opportunities to match every interest and ability. Offering as many opportunities for all to take part, as for those to excel across our sports programme.

That said, our top teams regularly win district and national championships. In fact, in recent years our children have enjoyed county or regional representation in over 10 sports. Yet we take inclusion just as seriously at Holmewood House and believe that representing the school at any level helps confidence and reinforces our core values of self-belief and aspiration. This ensures our focus is as consistent with our under U11 E sides as it is with our Senior 1st teams.

For The Love Of Sport

We never forget that some children just want to play for the joy of taking part and we’re able to put out teams at several levels to give pupils experience of competition including tag or touch rugby or pop lacrosse. Indeed, many Holmewood children who didn’t consider themselves athletes when they arrive soon discover new sports and take the opportunity both to enjoy and excel in many varied sports.
